Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons. ## **Work Shifts** **8:00 A.M – 4:00 P.M** ## **Duties & Responsibilities** **Purpose of Position**: Under direct supervision, performs work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in the areas of food services, housekeeping and maintenance and grounds operations; performs related work.  **Examples of Typical Tasks**: **In the area of Food Services Operations Only**:  1\. Sets-up assigned station with appropriate items before meal service; checks for cleanliness before starting preparation of food.  2\. Assembles prepared food on trays for patients according to menu cards or special diet lists. Delivers trays to patients and collects/returns soiled trays to the kitchen area. Participates in daily menu conferences and food service operations of cafeteria or dining room area, including organizing the serving area and collecting dishes and resetting tables.  3\. Assists in cooking operations and prepares patients’ between-meal nourishment and cold foods (e.g., salads, sandwiches, desserts, etc.) according to oral and/or written instruction; reconstitutes hot foods in microwave ovens.  4\. Serves foods at proper temperatures utilizing appropriate kitchen equipment.  5\. Cleans kitchen and dining areas. Washes, sanitizes and/or sterilizes dishes, working areas/surfaces, utensils and equipment.  6\. Collects, transports and/or disposes of garbage and trash in designated containers; runs appropriate items through a dishwasher utilizing appropriate cleaning and sanitizing agent(s).  7\. Obtains stock from refrigerators and/or storerooms. Loads and unloads stock, and dispatches and stores supplies.  8\. Attends in-service education programs, as assigned.  9\. Performs other related duties, as assigned or directed.  **In the area of Housekeeping Operations**: 1\. Cleans, maintains and/or sterilizes assigned areas of the health care setting by emptying wastebaskets, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming and washing/mopping floors, walls, ceilings, window sills, Venetian blinds, furniture and medical equipment with appropriate cleaning equipment, solutions and disinfectants. Bags soiled linens.  2\. Cleans mirrors and scours and disinfects toilets, sinks, tubs and showers using appropriate cleaning equipment, solutions and disinfectants.  3\. Cleans unsterile trays and equipment. Cleans and disinfects metal containers, sputum disposal room and equipment. Distributes clean sputum cups, containers and paper bags for waste to patients. Collects and disposes of cups and waste, handles and disposes of sputum specimen containers. Fills ice compartment of oxygen equipment and obtains oxygen tanks when required.  4\. Polishes metal. Maintains floors by stripping, waxing and polishing utilizing appropriate cleaning equipment.  5\. Collects, empties, transports and/or disposes of debris and garbage in designated containers. Relines waste containers with appropriate liner(s) and transports infectious waste material to designated areas.  6\. Assists in loading and unloading trucks and filling stock requisitions. Transports household supplies and equipment and assists supervisor in such tasks as distributing cleaning supplies.  7\. Moves furniture and equipment, and assists in the make-up and breakdown of beds (including their proper storage).  8\. Maintains control over tools and equipment. Keeps mechanical equipment in proper running order.  9\. May perform auxiliary services in health care setting laboratories, pharmacies and other special areas.  **In the area of Maintenance and Ground Operations**:  1\. Maintains grounds, cuts lawns and shrubs and cleans walkways, including but not limited to shoveling snow, to provide for a physically safe environment for pedestrians and vehicles. Assists with the removal of debris.  2\. Assists in loading, unloading and storing supplies, equipment and/or tools at point of pick-up, delivery or distribution.  3\. Fills and distributes/transports requisitioned records, materials, supplies and equipment including but not limited to food stock, cleaning supplies, medical supplies and ground maintenance equipment.      ## **Minimum Qualifications** Ability to read and write English and to understand and carry out simple instructions
